Michael Combs: A Commitment to Leadership and Brotherhood

“Greek life and my brothers at Pi Kappa Alpha mean the world to me.”

– Michael Combs

Michael Combs, a junior majoring in chemical engineering at The University of Tulsa, isn’t just another student navigating the rigorous demands of academics. He’s a leader, a visionary, and most importantly, a brother—a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, affectionately known as PIKE. His story is one of determination, community, and a deep commitment to making a difference, on campus and beyond.

From the moment Michael set foot on the Tulsa campus, the brothers of PIKE embraced him. They were there, not just to help him move into his dorm, but to help him settle into the new chapter of his life. This welcoming gesture was just the beginning of a journey that would shape Michael into the leader he is today—the President of the Student Government Association (SGA).

Michael’s involvement in fraternity and sorority life has been more than just social—it has been a catalyst for his personal and professional growth. “Greek life and my brothers at Pi Kappa Alpha mean the world to me,” Michael shares with heartfelt conviction. “They are why I am in the positions and the kind of man I am today.” For him, the fraternity isn’t just an organization; it’s a family that has nurtured his ambitions and stood by him through every challenge.

As President of SGA, Michael’s leadership is grounded in empathy and a clear vision for the future. His commitment to the campus community was evident from the start of his campaign. “Your vote is an opportunity to shape our collective future where every voice matters,” Michael declared during his candidacy announcement. His platform is ambitious yet rooted in the real needs of students—advocating for international students, enhancing mental health services, and fostering a stronger connection between residence life and the broader campus community.

One of the cornerstones of Michael’s platform is the accessibility and inclusivity of fraternity and sorority life. Recognizing its impact on his own life, he’s determined to make it more accessible to others. “Greek Life, an unequivocal cornerstone of our campus culture, should be accessible to all,” he emphasized during a debate. Through initiatives like subsidized dues and housing scholarships, Michael aims to ensure that more students can experience the same support and camaraderie that have been instrumental in his journey.

Michael’s leadership style is one of action and innovation. He’s not just making promises; he’s laying out a plan for tangible change. Whether it’s working to improve transportation for international students, collaborating with Sodexo to diversify dining options, or advocating for the mental well-being of student-athletes, Michael’s vision is clear: a stronger, more united campus at the University of Tulsa.

Through it all, Michael remains deeply connected to his roots in PIKE. His fraternity brothers have been his unwavering support system, from campaigning during his SGA run to cheering him on during debates. “They have been there for me every step of the way,” Michael reflects, a testament to the bonds of brotherhood that have fueled his drive to lead and serve.

Michael Combs’ story is one of leadership born from community, of vision shaped by experience, and of a future guided by the values of fraternity and brotherhood. As he continues to serve as SGA President, his legacy at The University of Tulsa will be one of progress, unity, and the enduring power of connection.
