Drew Brown, a senior at McNeese State University from DeRidder, LA, is the kind of leader who turns ambition into action. As both the President of the Theta Rho chapter of Kappa Sigma and Student Body President, Drew has made a lasting impact on his campus and within his fraternity. His involvement in fraternity and sorority life, combined with his drive for student leadership, showcases a powerful blend of commitment to community, education, and advocacy.
When asked about the role his fraternity played in his leadership journey, Drew doesn’t hesitate. “When you’re involved in fraternity life, it becomes your collegiate network,” he explains. “Other influential chapter members and presidents were the first people I spoke to when I was running for Student Body President. Their early support really propelled my motivation to run.” Drew believes that fraternity life provides some of the best hands-on leadership experience possible. From handling both smooth and challenging situations to learning organizational skills that translate to the business world, he sees these lessons as invaluable preparation for a successful future.
In his role as Student Body President and as a student member on the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors, Drew has been instrumental in advocating for initiatives that support student success. Under his administration, McNeese State is working to implement a program that will make standardized tests, like the NCLEX, LSAT, MCAT, and GRE, accessible to all students free of charge. “We’re also pushing for freedom of education through accessible syllabi and advocating for student wellness days to be recognized as university-approved absences,” he shares.
Drew’s dedication extends to his fraternity’s philanthropy efforts as well. Over the past three years, his chapter has raised over $133,000 for the SEAL Legacy Foundation, including an impressive $52,000 just this fall. This commitment to giving back reflects Drew’s philosophy on leadership: “In life, when faced between a tough and an easy choice, always choose the tough one. Test yourself every single day and be the hardest worker in any room!”
Looking forward, Drew aims to pursue a JD/MBA and aspires to a career in political consulting, lobbying, or a Chief of Staff role in government. His story serves as a powerful reminder of how fraternity life, combined with a dedication to leadership and service, can shape a promising future.
