Continuing a Proud Tradition

Garrett Moseley’s journey to becoming a Student Regent at NMSU is deeply rooted in the legacy of Sigma Chi at the university. “The previous two student regents at New Mexico State before me were Sigma Chi’s. I wanted to follow in their footsteps of service and felt inspired by their dedication,” Moseley shared. This tradition of service within Sigma Chi provided both inspiration and a tangible roadmap for Moseley as he navigated his path toward leadership on campus.

Preparation through Mentorship

Having a direct connection to his predecessor, also a Sigma Chi and the immediate past Student Regent, was invaluable for Moseley. This relationship allowed him to gain insights and prepare thoroughly for the role. “Having my predecessor be a Sigma Chi was extremely helpful as I was able to ask him as many questions as I needed about the position in preparation for the interview process,” he explained. Moreover, serving alongside his predecessor as Student Body President before his regency provided a firsthand look at the demands and rewards of being a regent.

Supported by Brotherhood

The support from the Sigma Chi fraternity was a critical element in Moseley’s successful pursuit of the Student Regent position. The fraternity’s backing gave him the confidence and courage needed to strive for and achieve his goals. “Sigma Chi has been a beacon of support for me. Knowing that a group of outstanding gentlemen support you and have your back gives you the courage to take the leap and go after your goals,” Moseley remarked, highlighting the profound impact of fraternity brotherhood on personal and professional development.

A Diverse Portfolio of Leadership Roles

In addition to his role as Student Regent, Moseley’s involvement on campus is extensive. His roles have included Student Government Senator, Student Body President, Chair of the Student Fee Review Board and President of the New Mexico Higher Education Regents Coalition. Each of these positions has allowed Moseley to shape and influence student life and policy at NMSU, reflecting his commitment to improving the university for all students.

Appointed to Lead

Moseley’s appointment on March 9, 2023, by Governor Michelle Luján Grisham, was a milestone marking his official entry into a significant leadership role within the state’s higher education system. This position not only allows him to represent his fellow students at the highest level but also to contribute to shaping the educational landscape of New Mexico.
